Ice skating

The activity days group at church went ice skating the first Monday of Christmas break.  Since this was going to be my golden opportunity for the kids to get their ice skating in, everyone got to go with her.  Michael did really well right away.  He has good balance.
Nate did fine, but he really wanted to hold my hand most of the time.

Adam brought a friend.  They both thought after a few minutes that it wasn't that fun and spent a lot of time sitting around talking.

Close up of the current hair cut.
Nate got better by the end, but he still preferred I was with him.
All of the girls that were with us.  There are more activity day girls, they were just out of town for the day.

The Perot Museum in Dallas

Ellie had a gymnastics competition in Dallas in December.  It was the same weekend that Joe and Adam were in Chicago, so we tried to make it into a really fun trip for the other three.  I took the kids out of school on Friday and we drove up to Dallas and went to their science museum.  It was such a fantastic museum- it was 5 floors of exhibits.  They were well thought out and fun exhibits for the kids.  We ended up spending 5 hours there, and we probably could have stayed longer, but by then we were getting pretty tired and hungry.
They had a lot of interactive exhibits- this was snowboarding on a video game, and they talked about different angles of the snowboard.

There was (of course) an area on oil and drilling.  This is the worlds largest drill bit.
They also had a special movie/ ride that allowed you to go down into an oil well, complete with motion on the ride.  It was cool.

I think our favorite thing was a long wall they had in one area of the museum.  You could pick an animal- t-rex, whale, cheetah, or a well known athlete, then push start and you could race down a track to a video of that person/animal racing at their normal speed.  They then clocked your time vs. their time.  I did find out that if I was being chased by a t-rex I would soon be dinner.

If you ever are in Dallas and are looking for a cool place to go- this is definitely it.
