Nate turned 16 and got his license on May 30th! They have a special photo op at the DMV you can take your picture in when you pass your test. It doesn't work as well when you are taller than the picture hole.
That's better. When we went to take the test, Nate was fully confident that he would pass the test, he had no fears that he would miss anything on the test. In fact, he assures me regularly that what I am saying is not correct and that he understands it better than me, and he also proceeds to correct me and tell me that I am wrong about whatever I am saying. He's usually pretty confident about that too. He loves to figure things out. He is always experimenting and watching videos to figure out new things. The things that he has been most interested in lately are making sourdough bread and making rocket fuel. To make the sourdough bread, he has created his own sourdough starter and is trying to make bread from it on the counter. To make rocket fuel, he has bought many different chemicals and his own blender (I refuse to let him use mine), his own hot plate, and he is often mixing things on the back porch. Then he sets them off in the backyard. Sometimes it results in big flames. Other times it results in large bangs or popping sounds. Sometimes it is copious amounts of smoke. Mostly the neighbors are tolerant of the experimentation.
He still loves to cook. He is getting really good at cooking and seasoning steak. Sometimes he will make a meal that is so amazing.
He also can be extremely thoughtful and kind. Sometimes he just does something that really makes you feel loved.
