Food tour and bike tour

When we were in Paris we went on two tours.  The first was a food tour.  We met a woman at a specific location and then she walked around with us and took us in certain shops to sample their food as she explained about the food we were eating.
It was near Moulin Rouge, so we had to take a picture when we were there.


Our favorite part of the food tour was the crepe.  Ellie and Loli are enjoying theirs.


When we had gathered a bunch of different food- breads and meats and cheeses, we went to a small restaurant and sat down and got to sample everything.  Ellie pretty much hated everything.  I liked the cheeses ok, but I didn't much care for the meats.  We did all enjoy the baguettes, they were really good.

This was at the "I love you" wall.  There are over 311 different declarations of love in over 250 languages on the wall.  It was fun.

We got to go in a baguetter bakery.  They take their baguettes very seriously, they have a contest every year, and if you have the best baguettes you get to supply your baguettes to the president.  The baguettes taste different in different parts of the city based on the water that is used to bake it (that comes out of the ground).

We went to a specialty macaron shop.  They have macarons everywhere, but Ellie and I found that we didn't much care for them.

This was a specialty chocolate shop.  They had made things out of chocolate- the Eiffel Tower, a ship...and then we got to sample some of their chocolates.  It was very yummy.

We took a bike tour one morning.  I think this was one of my favorite things to do.  We spent a good amount of the bike trip riding along the Seine river.




We stopped for lunch, and Ellie and I grabbed some gelato.  We really loved the gelato.

This is the apartment that Victor Hugo lived in when he wrote Les Miserables. Interestingly enough, he was paid by the amount of words he wrote for that work.  That definitely explains why it was so long.

It was overcast during the bike tour, but luckily, it only rained for a short while when we were near the Louvre where we could get cover.  We did have to stop at a light and wait for traffic to cross.  While the traffic was backed up, a small convoy of police cars came with their lights shining.  Nobody moved, so the policemen got out of their cars and pointed guns into the stopped cars to encourage the drivers to move along.  It was very effective.
