Coach Ray and High Jump

Ellie was able to find a private coach for high jump after she started the track season.  He was located about a half hour away, but he really knew how to train her.  He had been a collegiate high jumper and had even tried out for the olympics a couple of times.  He knew immediately what to tell Ellie to do to help her to fix her form and to jump higher.  He also was so positive and optimistic about her future that she felt like she had a lot of potential to do really well.  As soon as she started training with Coach Ray, her scores started going up.  Every meet for quite a while she was getting new PR's.  She was even placing at all the meets.  Once the season was over, it was time to do off season training.  They got themselves weighted vests and started running up hills and pulling sleds and hopping up and down the hills.  This was in the heat of the summer.  Ellie was so worn out at first, but before long she started to be able to keep up with all the other athletes and she could see the improvements happening  in her abilities.
She also made friends with the other kids that were in the camp.  They were working their tails off and commiserating together.

At the end of the season, Coach Ray took a job at University of Arkansas, Little Rock, and she had to find a new coach.  She continued to train and exercise every chance she could get in preparation for next track season, and with the hope that she would be able to get a scholarship to a division 1 school for college.
