Adam's Prom

When the pandemic hit and then quarantine happened things started getting canceled.  One of the first things to go was Mormon prom.  That is where most of the dating age youth in the church would get dressed up and go out.  Then the school's prom was called into question.  It wasn't canceled until close to May, but it was clear even if it did happen, it might be different than was originally planned.  Adam decided pretty early on that he was going to have his own prom.  He spent a lot of quarantine time thinking through what he wanted and how he wanted it to go.  He planned to do it at the ranch, so he thought about how he would want to decorate, what activities they would do and what foods to have and who to invite.  He then had to wait until it was legal to have a gathering with the amount of kids that he wanted to have. He made curtains to hang up in the barn to block off his space.  He designed and made a chandelier to hang in the middle of the barn.  He designed and made a special table to hold all the drinks for an Italian soda bar. He thought about a red carpet and tiki torches to make a red carpet entrance.  He did all of it himself.  After a while, he did let his friends help a little. After a lot of begging, he finally let me take the food and let the parents provide that. He invited several friends, Michael, Emma and all their dates.

The prom turned out AMAZING!  For the week before prom, Adam went out the ranch almost every day to clean it and get it ready.  He had a decoration day that he invited his friends to help him decorate the barn. The kids met early and went to the ranch.  They shot guns, went swimming in the pond and hung out.  Then they each retired to their own trailers to change and get ready for the dance.  The girls took a little longer than the boys, and while they waited they helped with food, set up the table and made flower arrangements.  Then they ate dinner and then we took pictures.  It got to be dark, so they lit the tiki torches and walked down the red carpet.  They had a dance for a few hours (and actually danced) and then went and roasted marshmallows.  Overall, it was an amazing evening and even more amazing that Adam was able to put it all together himself.
