The End of Band for Michael

I asked Michael recently (fall of 2020) if he had any interest at all of going back to band.  He said, not at all.  He mentioned that when marching season of 2019 started, a few days in he realized how much he absolutely hated it.  He looked at the calendar and realized he had like 100 days of practice left.  

After marching season in band, it slows down a little.  They do a concert in December and then they start getting ready for recitals in the spring. Michael decided he was going to quit band at the semester in his sophomore year, which would allow him to take Psychology AP and another elective.  He did start to learn a solo piece, but he didn't work too hard on it.  Nevertheless, he had a few performances that he went to that we got to enjoy him playing.  He and several percussion students played a few songs at the Stake's Christmas Noel concert. They invited the school band director, Mr. Drury to lead them and it sounded amazing. 

He lettered in band as a freshmen and got a letterrman jacket.  Very few kids lettered in band as a freshman, but that is because Michael did so well in his solo competition.

They also had a school holiday concert.  The kids got to dress up and play and it was fun to watch.

Since he quit band, we have asked him several times if he misses it.  Not at all.  He misses the social opportunities, but he made good enough friends that although he is no longer in band, he can still hand out with them.
