4th grade is the last grade in elementary at our schools, so this was the last year that I had a student in elementary. At the beginning of the year, Nate got to dress up for a sstorybook parade. He went as a creepy skeleton, so that definitely wasn't the storybook part, but he liked it.
Around the same time, they had a mother-son activity at the school. I put on my best 80's costume to go with him.
Nate was busy in scouts. He had a nature hike that he needed to complete because he had to miss the nature activity due to a football game. He and his friends got to hike around a nearby pond-alligator pond and then down to the creek. Unfortunately, we didn't see any alligators at alligator pond, but we sure did look. It took us hours to pull the burrs out of Marley's fur after the hike. That was in addition to all the mud she picked up. She's definitely a high maintenance dog.
Nate was also on the FLL Lego Robotics team. He and Carson were the main programmers for the robot.
He got to be an elf in the school play.
His big 4th grade field trip was to the Sam Houston museum. There they have a couple of San Houston's houses rebuilt with workers dressed in period clothing and talking about how life would have been for the Houston's.
At the end of the year, the 4th graders also participated in a War Eagle Challenge. The war eagle is the mascot of Adam's high school and the high school that Nate would have gone to if they hadn't built a new one opening in 2018 nearer to our house. Nate got to run in the race and did a really good job in his heat.
He was in GT. The project that they did this year was to create something new. Nate designed an unbreakable plate. He took two Corelle plates and glued them together with two types of glue and then threw them at the ground to see if they could break. There was one that didn't break!
This is Nate on the last day of school, the awards assembly. He was recognized for straight A's all year and good citizenship.
