At the cabin 2021

We went and spent about 2 weeks at the cabin this summer.  It was a little tricky getting out there because Michael was between 2 summer camps.  His camp at TAMU ended about noon on Saturday and his online camp started at 3 on Sunday.  We wanted him to be in Utah for the second camp so that he could already be out there when the 4th of July rolled around.  That was really hard to make happen- me, Ellie and Nate left Saturday morning and started driving.  Saturday evening, after Ellie and Nate had already fallen asleep, I went and picked Michael up from the Albuquerque airport.  Then we got up at like 4 am and started driving so that we could be at the cabin and have him set up by 3pm.  It was a rough day and included some caffeine pills.  We did see this excellent longhorn statue along the way.

We were very busy doing lots of things while we were at the cabin.  We cut a couple of cords of woods for my parents to use in their stove over the winter.  Nate even got to use the chainsaw and he was super excited about that.

We went on quite a few 4 wheeler rides.

We went fishing, caught some trout, smoked it and ate it in fish tacos.

We all crowded around Joe while he was trying to brush his teeth.
We went on a couple of hikes.  After this hike, we thought we should have gone on more hikes.

We dug for trilobites, and found quite a few.  But it was so so hot.

The kids played silly games like badminton and balloon soccer.

We saw cousins and went to the fire station fundraiser.

Of course we got ice cream.
On the way back, I forced the kids to go to Six Flags Over Texas.  They were so upset that they had to go and it was all a bit silly. They just wanted to be home a few hours earlier.

It was a great trip.  It does get frustrating to travel with the kids who all think they would prefer to stay at home and look at their phones and see their friends instead of doing all the things that we do.  I really hope someday they can look back and appreciate all of the things they have seen and done because they didn't sit at home on their phones or hanging out with their friends.
