Cows

Joe's dream for many years was to use the ranch to raise cows.  He specifically wanted to raise miniature angus.  He even got Ken and Jayne interested in the miniature angus and they have been raising a herd for several years now.  Finally, after buying Brett out of his half of the ranch, Joe was able to get his own cows.  He found some sweet miniature angus.  We went and looked at them on Mother's day, then he left them at the place they were at with the hope that the bull they had there would impregnate them.  He then went and picked them up in July.  He had 4 cows that were previously mothers and 4 cows that were about 6 months old- three females and one male.  

Later, he got a wagyu cow.  It is not miniature, so it is much bigger than the other cows.  The miniature angus are super sweet, if you come up to them and yell, "hey ladies" (in a Beastie Boys tune) they come running for treats.  They will let you pet them.  The wagyu cow is very skittish and stays back when you come around.  

It has definitely been a learning curve learning how to take care of the cows.  Unfortunately, the little bull got bit by a snake and died fairly quickly thereafter, which was very discouraging.  He is still trying to figure out if he will sell them as breeders or as grass fed beef.
