A year ago, when Michael was a sophomore we decided it was important to put him in an engineering camp to help him when he applied to college to show an interest in engineering. We found that there was a good one that you needed to apply to at Texas A &M. The application said that they only accept a few sophomores, but he went ahead and applied- and made it in! And then Covid. We kept watching and waiting, but they ended up shutting down all in person camps. We signed him up for a virtual camp, but it was very much not the same, and not very good. They did tell us that if we wanted, he could go the next summer and not have to reapply. He decided to do that. This summer rolled around and we all held our breath that they would allow summer camps to happen. TAMU did allow it, but many other campuses like University of Texas did not. (As a result, even though Michael got into Boys State, he had to do it virtually).
He was so excited to go. He had a good time, he enjoyed staying in the dorms and meeting the kids. Because of covid, they didn't get to tour the labs or interact with any professors like he had hoped they would.
