Our second day adventure, we went to Guatemala to visit the Tikal Mayan ruins. Tikal is one of the largest sites for Mayan ruins. We had to get up early to go. When we got to the border of Guatemala, we switched drivers. Onee in Guatemala, we went to breakfast at a little restaurant along the way.
The ruins themselves were amazing. They were so large and expansive. It was hot though, and there were a lot of steps to climb to really enjoy the ruins. Joe got a headache and Ellie and Nate were not very interested in climbing the ruins. Adam, Michael and I went on by ourselves and climbed and climbed and climbed. What is so amazing is that a huge portion of the ruins is still not uncovered. Its amazing how the jungle just came back and overgrew the large structures.
On the way there, Joe was super tired. He couldn't even keep his head up.
There were also howler monkeys there that we saw jumping through the trees.
I can only imagine how beautiful these cities were when the Mayans lived there and inhabited them.
