Visiting Colleges for Adam

With Adam's senior year approaching and college applications opening up, we realized that Adam had not been to many of the colleges in Texas or even others that he might apply to.  I decided to make it a priority to visit many of the colleges that he might want to apply to during our summer trips.

The first two were Texas A&M and Baylor.  They are basically along the same road 1 1/2 hours away from each other.  Adam really liked A&M, but he absolutely hated Baylor. I think it was because Baylor was so perfectly coifed and that did not appeal at all to Adam.  

 On our way out to Utah this summer, we stopped at UT Austin.  Adam didn't really like UT Austin, however it is number one on his list of places to go.  He didn't like that it was in the middle of the city and how close to downtown it all is.  He also didn't like that there was a statue of Cesar Chavez on the campus, and he hated that the tour was 3 hours long.

 The next day, we stopped by Texas Tech in Lubbock.  Adam loved this campus.  It was a beautiful campus- spread out with lots of nice art.  The admissions department was not holding tours the week we visited, but as we were giving ourselves a self guided tour of the business building, we ran into an admissions guide and they gave us a quick tour.  Everyone there was super nice and overall we were quite impressed.

When I went to Provo to drop Michael off for EFY, Adam came too so that he could go on a tour of BYU. I hadn't been to BYU in years and there were whole roads that were no longer there and buildings where there used to be roads that I would walk on.  I was impressed with how many new buildings there were on campus.  Adam didn't think that he would like BYU, but as soon as he got there he looked around and thought there were quite a few good looking girls.  Then when we went on a tour, our tour guide was a student from Texas that was in the business program.  She was quite knowledgeable and was able to answer a lot of questions that Adam had.  He left thinking that maybe he would be interested in BYU after all.

On our way back from Utah, we did a quick stop at ASU.  We were in a hurry to get back so that we could go to the Frost family reunion in Maine, so we had to go on a Sunday, and most of the buildings were closed.  Adam noticed that the parking structures had solar panels on them and in the computer lab they were using recycled paper and he decided that ASU must be a liberal school.  Based on that, he wasn't as interested in going there, but he still planned on applying.
